Description

Largest of the MiniCats at 15’ long with a ~23’ mast carrying over ~120 sq. ft. of sail, the MiniCat 460 is a formidable sailboat considering it packs into 2.5 bags. If speed is what you are after, this boat is made for you. Only slightly longer and beamier than the 420, it has nearly 19% more sail area. Also supporting gennaker, trapeze, and motor mount, it will scoot even in the lightest of air, but be forewarned that it'd make its own waves in heavier air. With that much sail on a boat weighing only 140 lbs with sails, it's probably more of a two-hander rather than single-hander if you want to avoid going for a swim. The Elite has a carbon fiber mast, bowsprit and rudder, whereas the Esprit has an aluminum mast and bowsprit with a fiberglass rudder.

Frequently
Asked
Questions

  • The carbon fiber mast on the Elite is half the weight of the aluminum one on the Esprit, 10 lbs vs. 20 lbs. Thus the Elite is significantly easier to rig and right from a capsize.
